In "portrayed" I meant in how they act.

New toon:
In the toon the ages are never mentioned; they don't even call each-other older/younger bro.
They don't even state that Leo is the oldest and Mikey is the youngest in the toon anywhere either.

Seriously, in the new toon, if there was no one there to give you their option on the age what sequence would you put them in? LRDM or LDRM?
That's way the fans that have started following the TMNT franchise from the 2003 series lean more to the LRDM sequence.

(There are also some "official" booklets. The problem is I only got to scan through Leo's and not the others. He did state, in the age section, that they don't know their real age but that he's a little older then Raph.)

Okey lets look at the TMNT franchise history a little bit:

First came the first comic series, which was then followed by another series then another and another and another.(Some of those series are still coming out today)
Then came the old toon(80' toon) the 3 movies and now in 2003 the new series and the 2007 movie.

Now most of those comic series have little differences in their story-lines; as in the main plot is still the same: They're mutated turtles trained in the ninja arts by a mutated rat, when they're teens they meet April and their main enemy is Schreder.

But everything else is free game: how/why they mutated, are they going to have more then one enemy, what they do when they defeat the Schreder, time-travels, dimension-travels, April, Casy, Krang, the Utroms, how they act,...

All/most of those details variate from comic series to comic series to the toons and movies.

Every series is kinda it's own universe/alternative-reality; and as a whole they are reffeared to by fans as the TMNT multiverse(as in multiple universes).

The 2003 toon series for example is, more or less, based on the comic series: their mutation story is the same, the mausers come, Utroms save Splinter, space travel where they meet Pr. Honeycut, Leo gets attacked by the foot and they go to the farm(althou in the comic it was on Christmas), and some more similarities; and the famouse blind eyes effect.(their masks make their eyes look white)

This is also where the similarities end and a new plotline begins.

Now why am I stressing out "the way they act"?
It's because in every series they act a little bit different and kinda have a little bit different personalities.

Leo is still leader, Don still the genius, Mike the goof-ball and Raph the hot-head. That newer changes but everything else does.

In the first original comic series they are allot more .... emo/angsty(in a bad sense and for the lack of a better word); and while they're close as a family I wouldn't call them close-close-close as I would in the 2003 toon.

You've seen the 2007 movie; in that movie they are in terms of personality far closer to the original comic then the 2003 toon. You've seen the difference in personality; how they're all much more angsty, much more arogant in a way and so on.

Looking at the 2003 toon their age sequence personality vise is very obvious: Leo>Raph>Don>Mikey

In the 2007 movie, on the other hand, you do get to question who is older between Don and Raph. (although you know that Leo is older then Raph since Raph called him "big brother" at one moment Razz

)

In the comics I don't know if they at any point call one another older/younger bro, since I haven't gotten that far yet, but the age sequence is evident(again personality vise) from the first few chapters: Leo>Don>Raph>Mike

It all depends on when you started following the TMNT franchise or how far in the history you've gotten. Those from the newtoon generation are most likely to say that the sequence goes LRDM while the older ones or those that went deeper in the TMNT history are more likely to say LDRM.

Woah that's was a mouthful! Thank you very much, it helps me in many ways.

I appreciate that you take your time to write down all the facts and theories.
But I would think that Raph is second youngest, because in the 2007 movie when Leo is gone, Splinter says that it is Donnies job to keep the turtles together. But...that may not have anything to do with age; only who is more cut out to be a leader while Leo is gone. I doubt Raph or Mike would be very good leaders, even if they were to be the eldest...haha...
But I hear yah! But it doesn't matter much anyway, now that I think about it.
Leo is a whiner, Donnie is a smartass, Raph is disgustingly emotional and Mike is annoying no matter how old they are. (And bless the little turtles; I wouldn't have them any other way! Smile

)

The 2007 movie is based on the comic series and in the comic series Don is kinda like Leo's right hand man(turtle).
So he is in command if Leo is not there at the moment.

About Raph... I've said it before and I'm saying it again: brutality rules! :} And I like his voice. He's kinda teh most mysterious turtle from all, as I notice.

All of the tmnt freaks I know, understand him way differently than other turtles.
